Kinlin XR-200 wheelset
The Kinlin XR-200 is a very light alloy clincher rim - 385g! For it's weight it is quite stiff but it is also cheap. The rim is no welded and the join can be seen but Kinlin do make the join smooth as well.
A 24 spoke front and 28 spoke rear is fine climbing wheelset for 80 kg ish riders or under. The wheelset above is built with Sapim Laser spokes, alloy nipples and Miche Primato hubs.
The weight of this wheelset is 1480g. If lighter hubs (Miche hubs are 450g per pair) are used a lighter wheel would result. If extralite hubs are used a wheel set down to just over 1200g would be possible but that would be very expensive. Lighter Novatec hubs the A171/F172 or the A291/F482 is how to get the wheels set weight down. 1350g is possible with the A291/F482 hubs without breaking the bank.
These rims are quite durable too if you use the soft brake pads. Abrasive pads will pick up metal from the rim. Koolstop Salmon pads work well.
The rims make a good budget lightweight wheelset but do not confuse that with one that falls apart quickly. I have put 3000 odd miles on mile in the last year without issues I have hung them up for a while now as I am testing something else. I will use them again when I go somewhere hilly or on hill climb TT's.
