18F/24R BORG38 tubular rims (carbon fibre) on
Dura Ace 9000 hubs with sapim CX-ray spokes. So light (1186g), very
stiff and aerodynamic. Cost £758 with Campagnolo carbon brake pads for
shimano or campagnolo brakes. What's not to like?
The rims are 20.5mm wide and ~300g in weight. The 18H hub is now available in the U.K and is one The Cycle Clinic is now stocking.

Handbuilt wheels with the H plus Archetype rims and Shimano Dura Ace 9000 hubs or Miche Primato/RG2
More wheels built today/yesterday.
All wheelset use the H Plus Son Archetype rim. One uses Shimano Dura Ace 9000 hubs and Sapim CX-ray spokes the other uses Miche Primato or the silver Miche RG2 hubs and Sapim Race spokes. The Archetype Dura Ace build weighs in a 1605g for a 24 spoke front and 28 spoke rear. The black archetype/miche build is 28F/32R and the silver archetype/miche build is 28F/28R.
The Miche hubs use big 6001 cartridge bearings, so they are long lasting bearings. they even have a bearing preload adjuster just like Campagnolo/fulcrum wheels do. It's an Italian thing.
All three wheelset of course are reliable and will do very high miles for the riders. In fact I probably do my job too well as they will not have need to come back for another pair for a very long time.
Cost of 24F/28R H Plus Son Archetype/Dura Ace 9000/ Sapim CX-ray build £554
Cost of the black H Plus Son Archetype/Miche Primato/Sapim build from £280 and weight from 1660g.
Reliable wheels for all budgets
All wheels leave the shop with tension +/- 5% and true to within +/-0.1mm. Stress releiving is key to a long lasting wheel and this is why I only build a few wheels a day. I spend alot of time stress relieving/hurting my hands for you. The spoke count used in the these wheels reflect the desire for all my wheels to last 10,000+ miles or at least until the rim wear out. That is spokes outlasting the rim. Just remember to service the Dura Ace hubs take care of them and they will last a cycling lifetime or a silly number of miles.

Pacenti SL23 wheelet 20F/24R on Novatec hubs sub 1400g.
This wheelset is a proper race day/race ready set of hoops. The rims are
Pacenti SL23. They are 24mm wide with an 18.5mm internal width and 26mm
deep. They have a semi aero profile, I say semi because the rim is not
50mm deep. The rim is tubeless compitable with the right rim tape. Tyres
come up on these rim a bit wider than they would on a narrower rim like
the Dura Ace C24 rim for example or similar. The wider tyre profile
means a a more comfortable ride and improved grip in the corners as the
tyre sidewalls are better supported.
The spokes used are Sapim CX-ray in black with red or black alloy nipples to match the hubs. The Cycle Clinic use Sapim spokes because they are the best.
The hubs used are Novatec A291/F482 SB-SL with EZO Japanese bearings and the anti bite guard freehub body. I supply the wheels with a shimano freehub but I do have a limited stock of Campagnolo freehubs so if one of these needs to be fitted then that will always be possible. I would never say the hubs are for winter training on wet roads, because that is the way to shorter bearing life but they will cope with a shower as well. If you want a winter training wheel then I build plenty of those. There is no circlip in the freehub meaning the bearings in the freehub are replacable.
The weight of the wheelset is 1370g - 1400g depending on the weight of the rim which varies between 430g and 445g.
These wheels are very stiff. You can pick any similar depth factory wheelset on the market and they will not be stiffer (in nearly all cases they will less stiff) than these. Why is a stiffer wheel important? Less lateral flex means longer spoke life, higher torsional stiffness means improved power transfer and long spoke life (slightly). I think the longer spoke life is important as I like wheels that don't go out of true or break spokes.
If you are wondering how they compare to the Shimano Dura Ace C24 or similar wheels, well the do very well in fact and in many areas they are better:
Ways in which these wheels out perform the DA C24 wheelset and similar
1) stiffer - this has the benefits I have already described
2) higher spoke count - longer spoke life again
3) wider rim - gives a more comofrtable ride and improved handling
4) more aero dynamic - the rim has a more aero profile, tyre width more closey matches rim width and the thinner 20 CX-ray spokes actually has a lower frontal area than the 16 Sapim CX-sprint spokes used in the C24 wheels.
The wheels may not have dura ace hubs which are very good but the Novatec hubs actually perform very well too. The cartridge bearings are replacable and while the hub are not waht I would consider wet weather training hubs they do make good race day hubs or hubs for drier days. You you day when the roads are not covered in standing water and rain is driving. If you want Dura Ace hubs and I don't blame you 18F/24R builds with Pacenti SL23 rims will be available after christmas.
Wheelset weight is low and the rims are tubeless compatible. The Cycle Clinic stock all the spares needed to keep these wheels on the road.
So if want a wheelset that performs as well as (or dare I say it better than ) the best alloy rimmed race orientated wheelset on the market then this wheelset is a option you should consider.

Velocity Aileron disc brake only wheelset
Disc brakes for road bikes are here. Well this is also a CX rim. The velocity Aileron is 25mm wide, 30mm deep and tubeless compatible. It is everything you could want in a rim. 480g weight and stiff. It is round too giving even tensioned builds. Available in 24H, 28H and 32H drillings it offers something for everyone.
This build is with DT Swiss 350 straight pull hubs and DT Swiss competition spokes. Wheelset weight is 1765g.
The wheelset is 11 speed compatible as I swap in the required freehub body. Simply a stiff, high performing semi aero and robust disc brake wheelset for road or CX use. The wide rim really lets tyre take up the width they are meant too. Here is the bike they were fitted to a well a stainless steel R931 Genesis Croix der Fer built up with Brook Cambium saddle, deda bars, stem and seat post and Campagnolo Chrous drivetrain -perfection.

Stans Alpha 340 Miche supertype wheelset
The Cycle Clinic has managed to get hold of a couple of pairs of Miche Supertype RS hubs. These hubs are normally found in the Supertype wheels but there they are in something else. I intend to order more of these hubs building with.
The Stan's Alpha 340 rim is 385g and as such needs hubs with good bracing angles to give a stiff wheel build. The Miche Supertype hubs is that hub. Becuase the spoke count is low Sapim Race spokes have been used and yes they are straight pulls. Wheel stiffness is good (I do built stiffer wheels though) but a you suspect these are for lighter rider (75kg or under). Weight is 1395g so it compares well to the Dura Ace C24 wheelset and will perform just as well. The rims like all the ones I use are wide internally (17mm) and like all stans rims are tubeless ready.
The hubs have a carbon fibre shell and use SKF bearings. They are 11 speed compatible and are available with a Campagnolo freehub if required.
The next wheelset with these hubs will be a carbon tubular build and another build with Pacenti SL23 rims.

BORG24T carbon fibre tubular wheels 1042g!
Well I have been busy as normal. A female customer wanted something very light for hill climb TT's so I have built 24mm deep carbon tubular rims (lets call them BORG24T) onto Novatec A291/F482 SB-SL hubs with Sapim CX-ray spokes. The hubs are 290g for the pair and low cost. The rims are OEM but have a good braking surface and I supply them with Campagnolo carbon brake pads in Campagnolo or shimano form depending on your brake type. The wheels are 1042g total (427g front and 615g rear). These wheels are for light riders (you probably guessed at) and are built for a single purpose or that 5 kg weight weenie bike. They will however be reliable for lighter riders say those under 75kg or so. Build cost £695 with the pads and skewers (another 65g on the weight though but you will ned them!). The Cycle Clinic will glue tubular tyres on as well for a complete package.

HED BElgian + wheelset
HED make the only 25mm wide alloy rim brake hoop on the market. 25mm deep too. Wider rims are simply better in every way, better looking too, to my eyes.
This build is done with sapim race (DS rear) and laser spokes (front and NDS rear) in 24H/28H drilling with Miche Primato hubs. Other hubs can be used of course. Weight 1690g in this form. So the only weight saving possible is from the hubs and using alloy nipples (and laser spokes DS). CX-rays could be used too.
so these wheels are very stiff, aero and offer great handling and ride comfort. Possibly everything you could ask for from a wheelset. Sutiable for rider up to around 95kg due to there stiffnes.
